The Algarve victory makes it the only beach destination in the world to claim the prestigious honour four times With previous wins in 2020, 2021, and 2024, the Algarve has now surpassed iconic rivals, including the Maldives and Turks and Caicos Islands, both of which have claimed the title three times.

The announcement came at the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala, often referred to as the "Oscars of Tourism". The Algarve emerged victorious from a competitive field of 19 nominated destinations, beating Thailand, Cancún, the Seychelles, the Philippines, Zanzibar, and fellow Portuguese destination Porto Santo.

–Becoming the only beach destination in the world to receive this distinction four times is a special moment for the entire region, said André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Bureau, according to a pressrelease by Visit Algarve Portugal.

–It reflects consistent, dedicated collective work over the past few years. More than a victory, it is a clear confirmation that the Algarve is at the global forefront when it comes to beach destinations, he continues.

The accolade adds to an already impressive trophy cabinet. Over the past decade, the Algarve has also collected ten awards as Europe's Leading Beach Destination, winning in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

According to the Algarve Tourism Bureau, this sustained international recognition reflects the attributes that continue to draw travellers from around the world to its 200 kilometres of coastline: a diverse array of natural landscapes, experiences suited to all types of visitors, and the region's commitment to sustainability, environmental quality, and beach accessibility.

–We receive this award with great pride and, together with it, the responsibility to continue raising the bar, preserving our natural resources, and exceeding the expectations of those who visit us year after year, Gomes added.
